Ancient Peaks Winery, Oyster Ridge Red Blend Paso Robles (2016)

This is their limited-edition Oyster Ridge cuvée to exemplify our finest winemaking efforts. The name Oyster Ridge is a tribute to the large white oyster fossils that are abundant in our estate Margarita Vineyard, fostering the type of calcium-rich soils coveted by winemakers worldwide. The 2016 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 51%, Merlot 32%, Petit Verdot 9%, Cabernet Franc 4%, and Malbec 4%, all from meticulously farmed vineyard blocks cultivated for the Oyster Ridge program.

The 2016 Oyster Ridge offers a sumptuous bouquet of black berry and black currant with notes of crème de cassis, violets, vanilla bean, cedar and graphite. On the palate, the wine is exquisitely dense and integrated, showing chewy layers of black fruits interwoven with accents of caramel, mint, cinnamon spice and new oak. Fine-grained tannins and sleek acidity bring a resounding conclusion to what is nothing less than a blockbuster vintage for Oyster Ridge. This is a wine that will generously evolve in the bottle for years to come.

Sauvignon Blanc offers vibrant aromas of guava, jasmine, apricot and lemon rind. A juicy texture reveals luscious stone fruit flavors complemented by quenching notes of lime and mineral. Notes of spice join crisp acidity on a clean, refreshing finish.

One Stone, Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles (2016)

TASTING NOTES
The 2016 One Stone Cabernet Sauvignon opens with classic varietal aromas, including cherry, currant, black olive and graphite.A juicy, chewy palate coats the mouth with flavors of plum, black cherry, sage and caramel. Fine tannins bring structure to an otherwise soft, approachable finish.

Margarita Vineyard stands alone as the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles region, tucked against the Santa Lucia Mountains just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Here the vines unfold along a rare array of five distinct soil types- ancient sea bed, rocky alluvium, shale, volcanic and granitic. The resulting wines express an unmistakable sense of place with flavors that are native to Margarita Vineyard and its stand alone Santa Margarita Ranch Sub Appellation.

Ancient Peaks Winery is owned by three longtime local winegrowing and ranching families- the Filipponis, Rossis, and Wittstroms. Two generations are actively involved in the daily operations of the vineyard and winery.
The wines are crafted under the guidance of Mike Sinor, a local winemaking veteran and one of the highest-rated winemakers on the Central Coast. Together the Ancient Peaks team is committed to making wines that honor the extraordinary character and flavors of Margarita Vineyard.

Amanda Wittstrom-Higgins is a Paso Robles native and the VP of Operations at Ancient Peaks Winery, where she belongs to the second generation of the winery’s ownership families. She joined Ancient Peaks in 2006 when the company began and worked her way up to the position of VP of Operations starting in 2014. At Ancient Peaks, she has led the charge on an innovative mentorship program that has graduated numerous aspiring wine industry professionals.

She established the Dream Big Darling Non Profit in 2018. In 2019 she was selected by Wine Enthusiast Magazine for their prestigious 40 under 40 list and has also been nominated for the “Social Visionary” award for the entire industry.
